FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often. Don't see yours here? Reach out and ask.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. We start every project with a complimentary in-home consultation where we walk through your space, talk through your goals and budget, and bring cabinet door samples, color chips, and material brochures with us so you can compare real options in your own home.

Do you take on projects that aren't full remodels?

Yes. We handle everything from a single vanity top or countertop replacement to kitchens with cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, and tear-out. The scope can be as focused or as complete as your space needs.

Can I view the actual slab before I decide?

Yes. Once we've narrowed down the material, we'll guide you to suppliers including Arizona Tile and Monterrey Tile, where you can view full slabs in person before making your selection. You can send us photos of what you like, have the supplier send the selection directly to us, or Mark can meet you there when additional guidance would be helpful. After templating, Mark lays the template out on your actual slabs before fabrication to plan seam locations, veining direction, color variation, and how the material will flow through the finished space.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Fountain Hills, San Tan Valley, Sun Lakes, Ahwatukee, and Gold Canyon, AZ. If you're nearby but not sure we cover your area, reach out and ask.

How long does a typical countertop or cabinetry project take?

It depends on the scope. A countertop-only project is usually the fastest once templating, slab layout, and fabrication are underway. Semi-custom cabinetry takes longer because it is built to order. We'll give you a realistic timeline specific to your project during your consultation and coordinate each phase so the materials are ready in the right sequence.

Do you handle removal of my existing countertops or cabinets?

Yes. Once the new materials are ready, Mark and the Markell team handle the tear-out and removal of your existing countertops or cabinetry as part of the project so you don't have to arrange that separately.

What's the difference between semi-custom and stock cabinetry?

Stock cabinetry comes in a limited set of standard sizes with little flexibility. Semi-custom cabinetry, which is what we install, gives you a much wider range of sizes, finishes, and storage features built to order for your space, without the cost and lead time of a fully custom build. Read more in our semi-custom cabinetry guide.

Do I need to be home during installation?

No. As long as we have access to the home, you do not need to be there while the work is being completed. Many of our clients are away during part or all of their project. When needed, we'll send photos and updates along the way so you can see the progress even if you're not there in person.

Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

Yes. Markell Designs is licensed, bonded, and insured under Arizona ROC #303318, and we've been serving the Valley since 2015.
