Markell Designs has been designing and installing custom countertops and semi-custom cabinetry across the Valley of the Sun since 2015.
We’re licensed, bonded and insured (ROC #303318), and we believe the process matters just as much as the finished result. With years of hands-on experience, we approach every project with thoughtful planning, clear communication, attention to detail and a clean, organized job site from the first visit through the final walkthrough.
From choosing the right combination of semi-custom cabinetry, countertops and finishes through tear-out and the final walkthrough, we’re hands-on every step of the way. We keep things organized, maintain momentum from one phase to the next and make sure each step is planned with the overall project in mind.
You’ll work directly with Mark D’Ortenzio and Kelly Schmidt throughout your project. Mark is there from the initial in-home consultation through the final walkthrough, helping create the design and staying hands-on throughout the project from tear-out through installation while working alongside our cabinet and countertop installers. He’s often the first one in and the last one out.
Kelly manages each project from estimate through completion, coordinating schedules, answering questions and keeping everything moving smoothly. She’s also involved with Women in Stone, a Natural Stone Institute program that connects women throughout the stone industry.

We visit your home, talk through your goals and help you explore the right materials for your space.
Mark measures your space, develops the layout and helps you finalize the cabinetry, countertops and finishes that bring the design together.
Mark templates each countertop project and lays out the slabs to plan seams, veining and overall flow before fabrication begins.
When materials are ready, Kelly coordinates the schedule while the Markell team handles tear-out and the installation of cabinetry, countertops and backsplash. Once everything is complete, we walk the finished space with you.
